White, Elliott Adams, 1889-1972
Biography
Elliot Adams White was born in 1889 in Melrose, Massachusetts. After a year at Dartmouth, as a member of the Class of 1912, he transferred to Harvard where he graduated in 1912. He received his doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1920 and joined the English faculty at Dartmouth the following year. In 1923, he was promoted to Assistant Professor. He retired from teaching in 1943 in order to devote himself to his creative writing career. White died in 1972.
