Biography

Don Carroll Bliss Jr. was born on July 3, 1897 in Northville, Michigan. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1918. After graduation Bliss became a career foreign officer and served as assistant trade commissioner and trade commissioner in Singapore and Indonesia during the 1920s. During World War II, Bliss served in the US Navy. In 1957, he was appointed ambassador for Ethiopia, a position he held until 1960. Bliss died in New York in 1978.

Abstract

Don Carroll Bliss Jr. (1897-1978), foreign service, trade commissioner. Dartmouth College Class of 1918. The collection contains correspondence, travel diaries, photographs and postal cards relating to his service as assistant trade commissioner and trade commissioner in Singapore and Indonesia.
