Biography

Harold James Tobin was born on June 18, 1894 in Syracuse, New York. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1917. During World War I, he served with the United States Navy Transport Service. He received an advanced degree in social science from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland in 1929 and for the following year was assistant professor of political science at Louisiana State University. Before taking his teaching position at Dartmouth College , Tobin was a member of the American Committee of the League of Nations Association in Geneva. He was also a lecturer for the Foreign Policy Association and wrote numerous articles on international relations for the association. Tobin joined the Dartmouth faculty in 1933 becoming a full professor on 1937. He died on June 17, 1942.
