Biography

Jay Cooke Allen was born in 1900. He was a journalist who reported on the Spanish Civil War for the "Chicago Tribune" and the "News Chronicle. He had worked for the "Chicago Daily Tribune" from 1924 in different European countries including Spain where he covered the revolutionary events of October 1934. During World War II, Allen covered the Nazi occupation of France and was briefly arrested by the Gestapo in 1941. Based in California he devoted the rest of his life to journalism and teaching. He died in 1972.
