Biography

Elaine A. Jahner was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1942. She earned her doctorate in folklore and comparative literature from Indiana University and came to Dartmouth in 1984 from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Jahner had a broad range of professional interests, although she was best known for her field work on the Standing Rock Reservation and her publications on American Indian culture, literature and linguistics. Her teaching for Native American Studies at Dartmouth, focused on American Indian literature. Jahner died in 2003.
