Biography

Augustus Storrs Jr. was born on April 5, 1791, in Hanover, NH. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1812, after which he taught in Flushing, New York before moving to Franklin, Missouri where he was Postmaster and a clerk in the Missouri legislature. In 1823, he joined a caravan heading for Santa Fe, NM where he subsequently became a trader on the Santa Fe Trail. In 1825, Storrs was appointed consul at Santa Fe and became a Mexican citizen, setting up a business in Chihuahua. In 1839 he moved to Texas where he purchased land. Storrs died on July 29, 1850.
