Biography
Allan H Macdonald was born in Lawrence Massachusetts in May of 1901. He attended both Phillips-Andover Academy and Princeton University, and earned a Master of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1924. The next year he began teaching at Dartmouth as an Instructor of English. In 1931 he was promoted to assistant professor, and in 1941 to full professor. He was praised by students and faculty alike as a great teacher. In 1924 he married Elisabeth Greenwood, with whom he had two daughters. He died unexpectedly in 1951 from a heart attack.
