Biography

Carl B. Hess was born on October 28, 1912 in Chicago. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1934 after which he went to work for Brasco, a Chicago manufacturer of metal storefronts. He subsequently worked as director of development at Cresap, McCormick and Paget, and at American Securities Corporation. In 1967, he co-founded American European Associates, a private equity company for which he served as chairman and president until 1989. He became chairman emeritus in 2000. Hess died on February 15, 2011.
