Hebert, Ernest, 1941-
Biography
Ernest Hebert was born on May 4, 1941. He graduated from Keene State College in 1969, and received a M.A. from Stanford University in creative writing in 1970. Before he joined the English department at Dartmouth College he was a sports writer, reporter and editor for the "Keene Sentinel," "Business NH" Magazine, and the "New Hampshire Times." He also wrote a weekly column for "The Boston Globe." Hebert is best known for his Darby series, five novels about an imaginary New Hampshire town, including "The Dogs of March"(1969). Other publications include "Mad Boys"(1993), and "The Old American" (2001). Hebert received an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Keene State College and the Sara Josepha Hale Award for literary achievement.
