Biography

Samuel Hopkins was born on April 11, 1807, in Hadley, Massachusetts. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1827, and the Theological Seminary in 1831. After graduation he became a minister and author. His published works include "The Puritans: or, The church, court, and Parliament of England, during the reigns of Edward VI." (1860) and "The youth of the Old Dominion" (1856). Hopkins was the grandson of Samuel Hopkins (1721-1803) of the Hopkinsian theology and the great-nephew of Jonathan Edwards. Hopkins died in 1887 in Northampton, Massachusetts.
