Biography

William Tucker was born in 1783. He entered Amherst College in 1833, but left in order to go into business with his father and cousin. Known by the name "Squire Tucker" he was a pioneer in manufacturing and represented the town of Norwich, Connecticut in the state legislature. Tucker was the grandfather of Dartmouth College President, William Jewett Tucker. He died in 1839, at the age of fifty-seven.
