Biography
Solon Rodney Towne was born on December 20, 1846, in Stowe, Vermont. He graduated from Dartmouth College with an AB & AM in 1872, and a MD in 1875. After graduation he began to practice medicine in Brookfield, Vermont and Enfield, Massachusetts, before moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1888. From 1898-1905, Towne was the medical inspector for the Board of Education and from 1900 to 1912, he was Professor of Hygiene at Creighton Medical College. In addition, Towne served as President of the Nebraska Tuberculosis Association, Police Surgeon and Lecturer of Public Health at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Towne died on January, 27, 1932 in Omaha.
