Biography

Charles H. Foster was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1913. He received his B.A. from Amherst College in 1936, and his M.A and Ph.D from the University of Iowa in 1937 and 1939, respectively. From 1947 to 1958, Foster was a professor of English at Grinnell College. He also taught at the University of Colorado and the University of Minnesota. From 1958-1972, Foster served as an editor of the "New England Quarterly," and was a visiting professor of English at Bowdoin from 1964-1965.
