Biography
Harriet Frances Parmelee was born on May 13, 1852 in Twinsburg, Ohio to Joel R. Parmelee and Harriet Abby Holt. She attended Lake Erie Female Seminary (now Lake Erie College) in Painesville, Ohio, graduating with her seminary degree in either 1875 or 1876. In 1877 she left Ohio for Japan where she dedicated her life to missionary work. As part of the American Board Mission in Japan she was stationed in Kyoto, Tsu, Maebashi and Matsuyama. She was a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) and was appointed as a missionary for life by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions in 1924. She died circa 1933.
