Biography

Charles Marsh was born on July 10, 1765. He graduated from Dartmouth College on 1786 after which he studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1788 and began practicing law in Woodstock, Vermont that same year. From 1797 to 1801 he served as United States District Attorney for Vermont. He was elected as a Federalist to the Fourteenth Congress (1815-1817). He was also the founder of the American Colonization Society and a trustee of Dartmouth College from 1809-1849. Marsh died on January 11, 1849.
