Biography

Matthew Harvey was born on June 21, 1781 in Sutton, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1806, read law and was admitted to the bar in 1809. Harvey practiced law in Hopkinton, NH until 1814. From 1814 to 1820, he was a member of the House of Representatives, serving as speaker of the State House from 1818-1820. From 1825 to 1827, he was a member of the New Hampshire Senate and President from 1825 to 1827. Beginning in 1830, Harvey served one abbreviated term as Governor of New Hampshire. He died on April 7, 1866.
