Blaisdell, Alfred Osgood, 1833-1919

 

Biography

Alfred O. Blaisdell was born on March 13, 1833 in Lebanon, NH. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1853 after which he learned the machinist trade in Manchester, NH and Providence RI. In 1862, he moved to New York City and started working for Secors of New Jersey where he designed the propelling machinery for the Monitors they built for the US Government. Later he designed sugar house machinery and was one of the designers of the old Brooklyn Bridge. Blaisdell died on October 22, 1919.

Abstract

Alfred O. Blaisdell (1833-1919), engineer. Dartmouth College Class of 1853. The collection contains orations, many for classes taught by Professor Sanborn, on a variety of subjects while he was a student at Dartmouth College.
