Converse, John Kendrick, 1801-1880

 

Biography

John Kendrick Converse was born on June 15, 1801. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1827, after which he taught school in Virginia where he also edited the Southern Religious Telegraph and the Literary and Evangelical Magazine. In 1829, he began the study of theology and was ordained pastor of the Congregational Church at Burlington, Vermont in 1932. Dismissed in 1844, Cogswell became the principal of the Burlington Female Seminary. He also published sermon and essays. Converse died on Sept. 3, 1880.
