Biography

Fitch Edward Oliver was born on November 25, 1819. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1839. After graduation, he took medical courses at Harvard, Dartmouth and the Medical College of Ohio. He returned to Boston in 1841 where he studied medicine with John S. Butler and Wendell Homes. In 1843, Oliver received his MD from Harvard after which he was immediately elected a fellow of the Massachusetts Medical Society. In 1844, after traveling in Europe, he opened a medical practice in Boston where he continued to practice for the nest forty-eight years. Oliver died on November 8, 1892.
