James Tracy was born on August 11, 1780 in Hartford, Vermont. He attended medical lectures at Dartmouth College Medical School in 1813, but did not graduate. He died on January 4, 1835.

Rust's part contains poems, lyrics and notes, sermons and other writings. Titles include "The Death of dam by J. Montgomery" "Greenfields," "An Ode on the Judgement" and "Gloom of Autumn."
