Biography

Charles Byron Spofford was born on February 18, 1863 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He began a business career which he continued after relocating to Claremont, NH in 1885 where he was in the drug and periodical business. In 1892, he joined the N.H. Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. During his time with the Society he was instrumental in having every known grave of a Revolutionary soldier in Claremont, marked by bronze marker, making Claremont the first to do so. In 1894, Spofford published, at his own expense, a record of the Revolutionary soldiers of Claremont.
