Biography

Burges Smith was born in October 1918 in Farmington, Connecticut. He attended Kingswood School and Cornell University and served as a Navy pilot during World War II. After the War, he began developing companies and at the peak of his career managed Putnam, Hartford Fire Extinguisher and Universal Lightning Rod Company. He died on August 24, 2008.

Abstract

Burgess Smith (1918-2008), businessman. The collection contains field notes, photographs, typescripts, maps, notes and musk ox knitted wool samples belonging to Burgess Smith who accompanied John J. Teal on a Musk Ox Expedition to Nunivak Island, Alaska in 1964.
