Grebenstein, George W. , 1884-1980

 

Biography

George Warren Grebenstein was born on September 19, 1884 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1917. As a junior at Dartmouth he was an All-American basketball player and went on to coach the Harvard men's basketball team from 1907–1909. From 1910-1916, Grebenstein was employed by the American Maritime Company of Cambridge after which he founded his own company, the Greb Company which manufactured garage tools and equipment. He served as president of the company until 1933, when he sold it. Grebenstein then entered a succesful career in government administration, serving in the Works Progress Administration, the Smaller war Plants Corporation, the National Production Authority and the US Census Bureau. He retired from civil service in 1950 and died on May 21, 1980.

Abstract
