Gallagher, Sears, 1869-1955

 

Biography

Sears Gallagher was bron in 1869 in South Boston, Massachusetts. He was a commercially successful American artist proficient in multiple media: drawing, etching, watercolor and oil painting. His work consists largely of landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes depicting his native Boston and northern New England, especially Monhegan Island, Maine. Gallagher also illustrated magazines and books. He died on June 9, 1955.

Abstract

Letter from artist Sears Gallagher in Paris to "Johnson" in the United States. Sears writes of his travels in England and France as well as time studying at Académie Julian. Sears hopes Johnson will send him some money for washes he completed and left Johnson to sell.
