Shumaker, Edward E.

 

Biography

Edward E. Shumaker III graduated from the Choate School in Connecticut in 1966 and from Dartmouth College in 1970. His involvement in the NH primary dates back to 1968. Since then he co-chaired both of Bill Clinton's NH campaigns and has been a campaign advisor to Joe Biden, Howard Dean and Hillary Clinton. He also served on the Democratic National Committee and as a member of the 2005 DNC Primary Commission. In the private sector, Shumaker is a lawyer and was president of the law firm of Gallagher, Callahan and Gartrell. He was also the first New Hampshire attorney elected a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. In 1996, Shumaker was one of New Hampshire's four Presidential Electors. In 1997, he was appointed by President Clinton to become ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago, a position he held until 2001. After his return to the US, Shumaker worked as a lawyer, arbitrator and mediator. From 2003-2008, he was the Executive Director and General Counsel of the National Education Association of New Hampshire after which he joined the law firm of Bernstein Shur, where he is engaged in commercial ad employment mediation and arbitration as well as employment law counseling.
