Biography

Thomas Hutchinson was born on September 9, 1711 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a businessman, historian, and a prominent Loyalist politician of the Province of Massachusetts Bay in the years before the American Revolution. Hutchinson served as lieutenant governor and then governor of Massachusetts from 1758 to 1774. He died on June 3, 1780.

Scope and Contents

Letter from Thomas Hutchinson in Boston introducing a deputation from the Society in Scotland for the Propagation of Christian Knowledge to an unnamed individual, as well as an order to Samuel Winthrop or Nathaniel Hatch, clerks of the Superior Court of Judicature of Massachusetts, instructing them to prepare a writ of assistance for Thomas Bishop who will be acting as a customs officer in the Colony.
