Tenney, Daniel, 1816-1902

 

Biography

Born in Chester, NH, on 10 December 1816, Tenney graduated from Dartmouth College in 1841 and from the Theological Seminary in Walnut Hill, OH, in 1844. Ordained as the second pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church in Oxford, OH, on June 30, 1844, Tenney served there for twelve years. In 1853, Tenney and 45 others incorporated the Western Female Seminary, according to the Mount Holyoke system, in the town of Oxford. After leaving Ohio, Tenney was ordained as pastor of the Central Congregational Church in Lawrence, MA, in 1857. There he met the Reverend Lyman Whiting, then pastor of the Lawrence Street Church.
