Biography

Ethan Allen was a farmer, businessman, land speculator, philosopher, writer, lay theologian, American Revolutionary War patriot, and politician. He is best known as one of the founders of Vermont and for the capture of Fort Ticonderoga early in the Revolutionary War.

Letter from Ethan Allen of Bennington, Vermont to Theodore Atkinson in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, sending a pamphlet he has written on public conduct and the former rite of extension of New Hampshire. Hopes Atkinson will approve of it.
