Biography

John Hurd graduated from Harvard College in 1747. He traveled widely from Nova Scotia to New Hampshire filling commissions for various Boston merchants. Around 1763, Hurd became the private secretary of govenor John Wentworth. He later was appointed to several county offices and served on the county court.

Scope and Contents

Tw-page letter from John Hurd of Haverhill, New Hampshire to Israel Morey of Orford, New Hampshire sending Major Child's mare and a bundle of clothes by Mr. Waldo. Hurd expects Morey to reserve for him 200 weight of pork and tells him that Col. Walker says the General Court has agreed upon raising 200 men for protection. Includes list of clothes sent.
