Biography

Dr. Benjamin Franklin Heywood was born in 1792 in Massachusetts. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1812 and from the Medical College at Yale in 1815. Heywood held various city offices and was a director in the Worcester Bank since 1831.He was also a counsellor and censor of the Massachusetts Medical Society, and in 1839 became a member of the society of the Cincinnati. Heywood died on December 2, 1869.

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a three-page letter from Ezekial Dodge Cushing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Benjamin Franklin Heywood in which he compares the medical lectures of University of Pennsylvania to those at Dartmouth and finds that they are not on a par with each other. He does not find an advantage in Hospital Practice, however, since there are too many people participating and it is impossible "to hear or see or feel the pulse or learn anything," he thinks that it would be better if he stayed...
