Biography

John T. Dallas was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on April 15, 1880. He earned an A.B. from Yale in 1904, graduated from Union Theological Seminary in 1908, and received a Doctor of Divinity degree from Dartmouth in 1922. After serving as curate of St. John's Church in Waterbury, Connecticut, he became associate headmaster and chaplain of the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut. He then moved to Hanover, New Hampshire to serve as rector of St. Thomas' Church, where he remained from 1920 to 1925. After a year-long stint as vicar of St. Paul's Cathedral in Boston, he became the fifth Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire, holding that position from 1926 to 1948.
