Biography

Mario di Bonaventura was born in 1928. He was director of music at the Hopkins Center from its opening in 1962 through 1969. He conceived and organized the music programs for the Congregation of the Arts. Di Bonaventura distinguished himself throughout his life as a conductor, composer, violinist, pianist, educator and arts administrator. He held several international awards in the fields of composition and conducting. In the course of his career, he conducted the premiere performances of over sixty works and was integral in bringing contemporary music to Dartmouth.
