Biography

John Lauris Blake was born n December 21, 1788 in Northwood, NH. He graduated from Brown University in 1812 and was licensed as a Congregational minister in 1813. Blake was the founder of the Ladies' Magazine, headmaster of the Cornhill School for Young Ladies, and served on the committee of Boston public schools. In 1815, he was elected a member of the American Antiquarian Society. Blake died on July 6, 1857.
