Biography

John Copenhaver was born on Dec. 21, 1922 in Ralston, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1940-43 as a radio operator on a destroyer in the Atlantic and attended Dartmouth as a member of the V12 Unit from 1943-46. He completed his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth in 1946 and received his PhD. in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin in 1950. Professor Copenhaver joined the Dartmouth faculty for the first time as an instructor in the summer of 1946 and then returned as an assistant professor of zoology in 1953 and became a full professor in 1960. Professor Copenhaver retired from the college in 1987.
