Biography

George French Theriault, born April 19, 1911 in Nashua, NH graduated from Dartmouth College in 1933 and received his MA from Harvard University in 1942 and his Ph.D. in 1951. He started at Dartmouth College in 1936 as a teacher of sociology with a special interest in human relations, small groups, intergroup relations, and occupation and professions. He was chairman of the sociology department from 1957-1961. He became the first Lincoln Filene professor of human relations in 1962 and a visiting research professor of sociology at the University of Montreal from 1967-1968. He is the author of “Survey of Alcoholism in New Hampshire” 1948 and “Institutional Nursing in New Hampshire,” 1958. He retired from teaching in 1976 and died in 1984.
