Biography
Allerton Cushman Hickmott was born in Hartford, Connecticut on February 4, 1895. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1917, after which he joined Connecticut General's investment department and continued to work in the financial sector for most of his life, retiring as vice president of the company in 1960. He was a trustee and director of many financial and cultural institutions and a highly regarded collector of seventeenth-century English literature, poetry and drama, including rare volumes relating to William Shakespeare which he donated to Dartmouth College. He was also the author of several books on the subject including "The Ivory Pale: The Shakespearean Collection of Allerton C. Hickmott." Hickmott died in 1977.

Allerton Hickmott papers
Allerton C. Hickmott (1885-1977), certified public accountant and collector. Dartmouth College Class of 1917. The papers contain correspondence, manuscripts, photos, pamphlets, clippings and memorabilia documenting his life and Shakespeare collection, as well as his collection of other 16th and 17th century English works, and the donation of his collections to Dartmouth College.
