Biography

Joel Martin Halpern was born in 1929. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in history in 1950, and from Columbia University with a Ph.D in anthropology in 1956. From 1956 to 1958 he was a field service officer with the International Cooperation Administration Community Development Division in Laos, and from 1959-1961 a consultant to the RAND Corporation in Laos. He has taught at the University of California at Los Angeles, Brandeis University and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Joel M. Halpern, professor of anthropology. Born in 1929. Consist of photocopies of articles by him on Arctic rocks and minerals, stories on Inuit life by David Uwingayak, a genealogical record of Inuit families and audio tapes with interviews of Inuit.
