Biography

Alvin Charles Gluek was born on January 15, 1923, in Minneapolis. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1944. During World War II he served in the Navy and after the war he received his master's and doctorate degrees in history from the University of Minnesota. He taught history at Michigan State University (1953-1969), Trinity College, Dublin (1958-1959), Dalhousie University, Halifax (1969-1971) and the University of Toronto from 1971 until his retirement. He is the author of "Minnesota and the Manifest Destiny of the Canadian Northwest" (1964). Gluek died in 2001.
