Biography

John Fiske was born on October 26, 1770, in Warwick, Mass. He studied theology and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1791. He was ordained as a minister in 1794, after which he preached in Seneca, NY, and Milford and North Brookfield, Mass., before settling in New Braintree, Mass. Fiske contributed to the establishment of Amherst College from which he received his Doctorate in Divinity in 1844. He died on March 15, 1855 at the age of eighty five.
