Biography
Robert E. Bannon was born on February 27, 1910, in Schenectady, NY. He received his B.S. from Columbia University in 1934. He started at Dartmouth Medical School in 1935, as a research fellow, before being promoted to instructor and assistant professor of Physiological Optics at the Dartmouth Eye Institute in 1945, a position he held until 1947. In 1951, he began his consulting career with the American Optical Company where he served as the resident optician and as an advisor on development and research. Among the many products Dr. Bannon consulted on were Reichert- Jung's original Non-Contact Tonometer and refractometer. He published extensively in scientific journals and wrote several clinical manuals. He continued to lecture at a variety of institutions before retiring in 1975. Dr. Bannon died on Sept. 17, 1996
