Biography

Born on September 16, 1945 in Trinidad, West Indies, Richard Joseph matriculated at Dartmouth at age 15 as a member of the Class of 1965. Following his graduation from Dartmouth, Joseph was the recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship and received his D.Phil. from Oxford University in 1973. Following graduate studies in France, England and California, publication of several books and teaching in Africa and the United States, he returned to Dartmouth in 1979 as a member of the government department. Professor Joseph left Dartmouth in 1988 to take a political science professorship at Emory University.

Scope and Contents

The oral history interview of Richard A. Joseph is comprised of audiocassette recordings and an indexed transcript of the recordings. The interview was conducted by Mary Donin periodically during September and November 2003. The entire interview runs for approximately five and a half hours and covers his undergraduate years during the 1960's and teaching years during the 1980's at Dartmouth.
