Wright, John Dean, Jr., 1920-2015

 

Biography

John D. Wright, Jr. was born on November 1, 1920 in Brookline, MA. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1942, after which he served in the U.S. Navy until 1943. After his service he went on to Columbia University to earn an MA and Ph.D. in American history (1946-1950). From 1950 to 1986, Wright taught history at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. He has been active in various professional historical association, writing book reviews and articles. Wright is the author of "Transylvania: Tutor to the West" and "Lexington: Heart of the Bluegrass." He died in 2015.
