Biography
Charles Young Hitchcock Jr. was born on February 15, 1917, in Quincy, Mass. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1938, and the Thayer School of Engineering in 1939. After engineering work in Harrisburg, Pa. and the Panama Canal Zone, he joined the Navy where he served three and a half years as a lieutenant in Company C of the 28th Navy Construction Battalion during World War II. In 1946, he joined Metcalf & Eddy as a consulting engineer. He later became a partner in the firm, from which he retired in 1978. Hitchcock also served as director and chief engineer of the water division of the Metropolitan District Commission and as a vice president of Universal Engineering Corp. in Boston. He died on June 30, 2005 at the age of 88.
