Biography

Edward Thoyt Chamberlain, Jr. was born on May 27, 1914 in East Lynn, Massachusetts. He was a 1936 graduate of Dartmouth College where he was a star halfback on the football teams of 1934 and 1935. Following graduation, Mr. Chamberlain served Dartmouth for approximately fifty years, beginning his career as assistant to the dean of freshmen from 1936 to 1942, spending four years in the naval reserve, and returning to Dartmouth to work in admissions from 1946 until 1979 where he served as director for 24 years, and serving as special assistant to the president for special projects until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Chamberlain died in New London, New Hampshire on November 6, 1997.
