Biography
Harold Barnes Putnam was born on February 15, 1916 in Boston. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1937 and worked for the Boston Globe until 1948 when he began his political career as a member of the House of Representatives. While serving in the House he returned to college and received his law degree from Boston University in 1952. Putnam spent eight years in the Massachusetts legislature, and many years in the office of the attorney general, specializing in legal opinion, eminent domain, not for profit organizations and consumer matters. He was also regional director of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare and studied painting at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Putnam died January 16, 2007.
