Biography

Isaac William Smith (1825-1898). Born in Hampstead, New Hampshire. Graduated from Dartmouth College in 1846. Admitted to the New Hampshire Bar in 1850. Served in the State House of Representatives, the State Senate, Assessor for New Hampshire’s Second Internal Revenue District, and Mayor of Manchester before being appointed Associate Justice of the State Supreme Judicial Court in 1874. Eventually appointed a Justice of the Superior Court. He resigned due to health reasons in 1895, and finished his life practicing law in Manchester. Dartmouth College Trustee 1885-1898.
