Biography
Virginia Moffett Caldwell was born on October 19, 1919. She attended Washington Missionary College and Baltimore College of Dental Surgery from which she graduated in 1937 and 1939 respectively. In 1941,Virginia married Andrew Fletcher Jr., the son of the Chairman of St. Joseph’s Lead Company with whom she had one son, Andrew Fletcher III. After her divorce from Fletcher, Virginia married the American author Erskine Caldwell in 1957. She became his constant companion and sometime contributor until his death of lung cancer in 1987. After Caldwell's death, Virginia became the conservator of his financial and literary legacy. In 1991, she married Ralph Emerson Hibbs, a physician.
