BERRY SPORTS COMPLEX: GROUND BREAKING 8/85; "Press conference and ground-breaking ceremony marking the start of construction of the Berry sports complex. Bill Craig '44 welcomes guests, acknowledging Roger Clarkson '75 and Don Radasch '35, and welcomes and introduces speakers. Reverend James Breeden '56, the Dean of the Tucker Foundation, gives the Invocation. Ted Leland, the Director of Athletics, expresses optimism for the future of the athletic department and physical education at Dartmouth. Charles Gwathmey, principle architect of the new structure, speaks of his personal and professional history with Dartmouth, and details the architectural excellence of the new gymnasium. Dartmouth President David McLaughlin '54 traces the historical development of athletic facilities at Dartmouth and establishes the importance of indoor physical exercise space at the college. John Berry '44 speaks of the Dartmouth Experience and the role played by athletics, and expresses his hope that the new sports center can enhance the Dartmouth Experience for years to come. Finally, David McLaughlin and John Berry break ground with the ceremonial spades. Recorded by Instructional Services, Dartmouth College.
