"HILL, ERROL G.", 1998
Description
"HILL, ERROL G."; "The Presidential Lecture Series was started in 1987 to recognize the accomplishments of members of Dartmouth's faculty and to celebrate research, foster intellectual interchange, and to inspire scholarship. As Professor of Biochemistry at Dartmouth College, Dr. William T. Wickner has received numerous awards and accolades, most recently, having been designated the 11th Annual Presidential Lecturer. Introduced by Dartmouth President James Freedman, Wickner discusses the progress and implications of the scientific revolution in the late twentieth century. The changes made in the physical and chemical sciences, from discovering the properties of the elements to discovering cell structure, and genetic code, have radically changed society. By understanding cell structure and cell functions, scientists can deduce the causes of certain diseases that originate on the cellular level. In a lecture rich with history and detail, uniting different studies of physics, math, biology and chemistry, Wickner describes the evolution of cell studies as well as the most recent developments. The quality and sound of the recording are good. Recorded by Instructional Services, Dartmouth College. "; VHS
