DARTMOUTH LAWYERS ASSOCIATION 8/1/92; 8TH ANNUAL MEETING; "Separation of Powers--The Constitutional Challenge panel. The Dartmouth Lawyers Association hosts a panel of experts to discuss aspects of the separation of powers basic to our democratic government. Moderator Lynn Mather, Government Department chair, initiates the program with a brief historical review recalling the original reasons for the separation, then asks the question, ""Does it work today?"" Guest panelists are Judge James Oakes, Chief Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, Congressman Frank Guarini of New Jersey, and Professor Gordon Silverstein of Rice University. The discussion revolves around current tendencies in the ever-shifting balance of power among the three government bodies, and the implications of these tendencies for certain current affairs both foreign and domestic.
